Axis Analysis
by Fionn Kelly

The German tactical analysis is simple… The German forces in this scenario merely need to maintain their current position. They have strong, but isolated anti-tank and anti-infantry bunkers and pillboxes which will serve to slow and attrit any central enemy advance but weak flank defenses.

Sound Defense Layout

Therefore I propose that two-thirds of the infantry with which the Germans start the game go to their flanks and preventing Allied forces from working around the German flanks. Combined  infantry platoon and schreck ambush teams anchor the two flanks while the Pz IV's play sniping games from in between the buildings in the town ( again slowing down and attriting any central advance without getting decisively involved).

The 75mm Igs should be sited so as to be able to fire on any enemy infantry or tanks which break through the flanking infantry forces and try to roll up the flanks.

Apart from that there is very little the Germans can do except sit still, keep their Pz IV's mobile and not decisively engaged and wait for the Panthers and Jagdpanther to show up. This IS one game where, if you are advancing, you MUST keep your infantry close to your tanks in such a manner that they sweep the area your tanks will traverse for hidden bazooka teams.

Any American player who fails to do so will suffer heavily from your schreck ambushes whilst any American player who does sweep ahead will probably be outrageously slowed by such careful movement and will only reach the decisive locations AFTER your reinforcements have arrived. Either way you win.

Unfortunately there is very little tactical genius possible given the fixed locations of the bunkers, pillboxes, minefields and PaK 88. You really are tied down to supporting them from such positions as you can reach within a turn or two.

Just keep your cool, allocate as much force as you can spare to flank protection at all times and sit tight.. Remember that the Allies MUST capture the town in order to win so all you need to do is hold tight and kill them as they advance.
