American
Analysis
by Fionn Kelly
The analysis of this map is actually quite
simple. The enemy has got great fields of fire to the front of his main
defended area but very poor fields of fire and restricted LOS to either
side.
This screams for you to launch a flank attack
and, while obvious, it is a strong option.
I would push perhaps a platoon forward down the
middle of the map as a scouting force, taking care to split it into
half-squads and merely try to see what opens fire on me. I would work
the half-squads of this platoon into good observation positions and
then simply hold them in place. Either the enemy will open fire on them
(good since then you see where he is), drop arty on them ( good since
he’s wasting arty on dispersed troops) OR ignore them ( good since
now you have multiple eyes on his positions and the instant he moves
you’ll see what he has and where it is moving to).

Good American Attack Profile
I would then divide my force into two and
basically move my forces down the scattered trees on both flanks. Be
sure to scout ahead with your infantry as you can be absolutely sure
that any German commander with even half a brain will have placed some
AT minefields or schreck teams on the road. As you nearly flank the
enemy position bring your infantry and MMGs and HMGs through the
forests so as to close with the enemy, provide suppressive fire AND
provide lots of extra eyes and wait for them to report the location of
enemy tanks and AT assets.
Use this superior intelligence to co-ordinate
your two flanking forces so that each force gains flank shots on enemy
units as they turn to engage the other force. With just a little luck
you ought to be able to utterly destroy the enemy in your crossfire.
The ONLY thing that can lose this scenario for
the Americans is if the American commander is careless enough to allow
himself to be ambushed in the scattered trees. Don’t be careless.
Have scout half-squads range ahead and be prepared to conduct a
combined arms assault the turn after your recon half-squads run into
any enemy units. Hit them hard, hit them fast and then race on to your
final jumping off positions and you will succeed. Behave sloppily or
move too slowly and you will fail.
