Mission
Background:
Your forces have been holding a key village all through the
winter. The village controls an important road net and bridge
over a recently frozen river. Several attempts by US forces to
take the town by direct assault have failed. Early in the morning
forces of the US Army launched a combined arms assault on a weak
sector near the village. The enemy attack was able to push a
sizable infantry force, backed by tanks, through the breech. This
force is now in positions on the far side of the river and recent
enemy activity would indicate that an assault from all sides is
imminent.
The defending force is small, but very well trained.
Unfortunately, most of the force's heavy weapons have been lost
in earlier fighting. On the positive side, they received fresh
ammunition during the previous evening and got a decent night's
sleep. Forces were also consolidated to form full squads.
After it was reported that the US flanking force had broken
through, the sector's main reserves were dispatched to
counterattack. Due to several previous counter attacks, the
number of tanks available is not many. Likewise, not enough motor
transport is available for the entire relief force. The
Volksgrenadier troops have therefore been dropped off by truck
and must proceed on foot. Most of the heavy weapons have had to
remain behind as well. However, some artillery has been made
available for close tactical support. A scratch force has been
rounded up from another sector and is about 15-20min behind the
main relief force.
A recon patrol sent out ahead of the relief column has indicated
that the US forces are aware of the advance, as well as the
advance routes. It is not known what the US force has at its
disposal, although it is highly likely that tanks are present in
significant numbers. Expect trouble sooner rather than later.
Mission
Objective:
Hold onto the village at all costs. Advance the relief force and
smash through to reinforce the village. Time is of the essence.
Good luck!
