ORDERS
FOR TENTH MINUTE
Ploebsch
is to stay and watch for a shot on the advancing tank; it is his death
sentence, but moving him will almost certainly expose him to enemy fire
that would kill him anyway.
In an attempt to
provide a distraction, Machen’s mortar is to shell a group of US
troops huddled to the left of the road just in front of town. They will
be best placed to fire on Ploebsch; for him to have any chance at all
those US troops must be suppressed.
Meister’s
second and third squads, hidden by the house and wooded patch, are to
sprint for the church, where they will take up new defensive positions.
If they can find a place where the enemy tanks cannot shoot them, they
will probably be able to hold off the US infantry that are sure to come
across the road soon. The first squad, and Thieser’s machine gun, are
to attempt to rush to the wooded patch that shelters Meister now.
Bahr and
Dietrich’s Panzerschreck are to move further forward, into positions
that will place the maximum amount of visual interference between there
path to the road and the Americans in town.
Kirchner’s men
are given orders to run to Schafer. They will be annihilated if they do
not obey.
Beerbauer will
watch for a likely target; he MUST score now.
ACTION
IN TENTH MINUTE
More artillery,
for that is what it must be, impacts around Beerbauer and Machen. They
suffer no casualties, but now that the enemy knows their location their
power is considerably reduced. Machen is still able to fire quite a few
more shells into the American infantry huddled to the left of the road
just in front of town.
Kirchner’s
squad, the only one left from Lamp’s platoon, reaches Schafer’s HQ
section, suffering one more casualty in the process.
Meister’s
platoon is able to reach the shelter of the church with no further
casualties. Thieser is under fire, but is moving. I hope he will be
able to follow the same path as Meister.
Bahr’s platoon
and Dietrich are in the position I want them to have before they move
toward the road. There is the possibility that Dietrich will be able to
fire at the closest American tank if it reaches the road. Between
Ploebsch and Dietrich, I can only hope that one of them scores a hit.

“Bahr’s men in position to dash to the road.”
Two tanks are
now circling the left side of town, while the other two are parked
among the buildings at the front of the town. The first two are
probably going to support the assault of the US infantry near Schafer;
hopefully Schafer will be able to hit the infantry without being hit by
the tank. Hermanns and his Panzerschreck launcher are probably not
going to be capable of killing both tanks. The other two are either
going to sit in place and shell the town, or else move farther in. For
that to happen, the US infantry there need to be combat-effective, so
if the tanks move, the infantry is probably still a threat.

“Meister’s men are in the shelter of the church. The American
tanks can be seen; two are among the houses at the front of town, the
other two are circling toward Schafer.”
For
certain, the enemy infantry have been much less active in the past few
minutes. The tanks have been doing most of the moving and shooting. I
do not know whether the infantry are regrouping before another assault,
or if they are truly hurt. I certainly hope the latter is the case. Had
I been able to eliminate some of the enemy armor, I might be able to
stymie the Americans and force them to cease their forward movement.
