Orders
– Turn 3
Baker platoon has three options: 1)
Advance, 2) Ride it out, or 3) Retreat.
The rest of the company is still not in position yet so I’m not
going to advance them. I
don’t think his spotters can really see me and I don’t like moving men
under fire unless it’s necessary so I decide to order most of them hide.
I do order the forward squad to crawl back a few yards into the
woods though.
On the left and right, we continue the
advance, especially on the left. The
green Fox platoon is going to crest the hill and head for the scattered
woods in front of the town. If
I have to sacrifice a platoon, this one is the most obvious choice.
I’m not sending them in alone though.
The three tanks and my heavy weapons teams are right behind them.
I’m not worried about the machine gun I’ve spotted already.
I’m worried about what else might be out there, especially in the
woods right behind the town. That
would be a nice spot for an AT gun so I’m not going to expose my tanks
to that area until I send in some infantry to look at it.
Also, I’ve put in a fire order for some of my own 105 arty there.
Should be here in a little over a couple of minutes.
On the right, Charlie and Dog keep heading slowly through the
woods. I’m moving up with
them

The big right hook is almost ready.
Action
– Turn 3
This
turn went better than I hoped. Fox
platoon was not even fired at and has almost made it to the scattered
woods. As expected, that
machine-gun gave me no problems. He
is now in full-scale retreat. He may have even panicked. The shelling of Baker has ceased.
In fact, they’ve even given me a small smoke screen.
A tactical mistake by the German commander (in my opinion) because
it allows me to get closer to town unseen and there doesn’t appear to be
any advantage for him.
<
This Kraut MG Team is already having a bad day.
Six units, including two tanks are firing at him.
It
appears to me that we now have the initiative (i.e. He is having to react
to me rather than me to him.) I
have attacked in a way that he had not planned for.
It is important that I now keep the pressure on while I have an
advantage. I plan to do
just that so that he cannot redeploy his assets.
No one said war is fair.

So far, so good. Things are
still going according to plan.
