Turn 5 AAR:
Orders Phase:
The redeployment of reserves continues. On my left
flank Leutnant Wurdig is ordered to bring his platoon into positions
from which they can guard Herr Faustle’s Hetzer from enemy close
assault as well as preventing the enemy from too easily flanking the
infantry arrayed along the crests of the ridgelines just to the right
and in front of Faustle’s Hetzer.
Once Wurdig is in place any company-sized Amis
assault will face almost three platoons of infantry backed by a platoon
of HMG42s.
Leutnant Bunning’s platoon is continuing to rush
forward as quickly as possible in order to provide some support to the
battered Elite Fallschirmjaeger slowly withdrawing in the face of a
reinforced Amis company. I’m accompanying him with an 81mm FO in
order to be able to lay down accurate barrages of indirect HE so as to
allow my troops to disengage and withdraw more easily.
It’ll be extremely good luck if I can extricate any of them
given the sheer scale of Murray’s commitment to this axis.
Action Phase:
Apart from the minor redeployments of reserve units
to fill gaps created by the movement of first-line units and the
displacement of a couple of units away from buildings or other obvious
targets for Murray’s tanks there is little to report.
Light mortar fire is reaching out towards Murray’s
troops currently at and near the ambush site. This mortar fire won’t
do very much to his troops but it should spook some mortar teams
causing them to abandon their weapons as well as generally slowing his
infantry, thus allowing me to re-organise my Elite Fallschirmjaegers
and create something akin to a strongpoint in the path of the Amis
advance.
This turn has definitely been characterized by both
of us drawing lessons from the initial ambush and either trying to
ensure the retreat of the ambushers or trying to organize so as to be
able to follow them quickly and in strength.
