Mad-Dog Mod Pack-1 Readme... 6-17-2000 Who are we? We are: Madmatt "Beta Tester and self appointed SOUND GUY". I either lent my own voice or recorded every British and US voice in the final game as well as re-edited every other voice! I also did some graphic cleanup and some textures for the finished game. Dan 'Kwazydog' Olding: Beta Tester and the man MOST responsible for the textures in the Final Game. Much of the MDMP was stuff he meant to have included in the game but because of time and space on the CD they didn't make it in. All the graphics in the MDMP except the Winter Hetzer are Dan's! Bil Hardenberger: Beta Tester and also provided some graphics into the original game. In this pack he has done up the amazing Winterized Hetzer and has many more goodies are up his sleeve for future packs...He is also the man who made the legendary "Madmatt Face Texture" which still graces my units to this day! Requirements: Currently the MDMP packs are PC only. We are working on converting them to support Macs... For the sounds there are no baseline system requirements. If your system can run Combat Mission normally then it will handle the new sounds just fine. The new sounds are all approximately the same size as the originals. Please note that the contents of MDMP-1 are meant for the FULL VERSION of Combat Mission ONLY. The sounds will playback in odd ways in the demo (some quite slow, some ok, some accelerated) and we do not know how the graphics would look either... For the graphics, the baseline system recommendation depends on which version of the new grass texture you select to install. We have made available a Hi-Res and Low-Res version of the grass textures. We recommend that you have a video card with at least 16mb of Video Ram to use the Hi-Res version. The Low Res versions are the same size as the default textures just slightly recolored. The Jagdpanther is also a hi-res version (no low res available) but any video card should be able to display it just fine. To be honest, you will just need to TRY the Hi-Res grass out and see how it looks on your video card. All of our testing was done with TNT2 cards and on those they look great. Performance Hit: In our testing with ALL graphics applied (hi-res grass) we have seen ZERO performance hit. You mileage may vary...Obviously the standard High-Quality Smoke and new Explosion graphics that come with the v1.01 patch may slow your system down but then that's why you can toggle those settings off. Installation: Simply unzip the contents of the pack that have selected into a working folder. Copy all .wav files into the Combat Mission WAV directory and copy all .BMP files into the Combat Mission BMP directory. Launch game per normal and prepare to be amazed! Contents: What do you get in the Sound Pack? With the Sound Pack we have replaced or remixed almost every weapon, explosion and causality sound effect for Germans and US (other nationalities forthcoming!). Some sounds were just cleaned up to sound better while some had the BASS response boosted somewhat and others were replaced outright with other sources. All smallarms sounds were replaced with new ones! Some heavy caliber weapons (40mm and 20mm) were replaced. Explosions were BASS ENHANCED. Many other miscellaneous sounds were modified, edited or replaced outright. All generic causality sounds (the AGHH, and OUGH! ones) and the German and American language specific causality sounds (the 'I'm Hit', for example) have been brought to a new standard called HI-ACTION. HI-ACTION sounds now have the sounds of battle in the background added to the base sound. You will get the zips and zweeps of bullets and shrapnel, the screams of comrades dying and the general background NOISE of combat. This will play once a unit takes a causality. In the past due to the level of noise it has been very hard to pick out when or where a causality occurred. With HI-ACTION sounds you will hear a ricochet or bullet hitting a body (or a slew of other effects) and then a scream and know that a unit took a hit! We feel that the new HI-ACTION sounds will immerse you into the game far more than anything so far. Please note that this is just the first public incarnation of the HI-ACTION standard and many more optimizations to them will be forthcoming. What do you get in the Graphics Pack? First off you get a house that for some reason didn't make it to Charles in time to go on the CD. Well, now you have it! You get all new pine as well as new regular trees. You get all new tree-bases (the graphic tile that trees stand on.) You have the option (depending on which pack you download) of getting new Hi-Resolution grass with over 4 times more detail than the stock grass or Low-res Grass which is just re-colored to aid in elevation determination or you can get no grass which, well has NOTHING... You get tweaked Brush Textures (since Dan and I did the original, we think you will like this one) Tweaked Marsh Textures (Marshier! Also done by Dan who did the originals) New Jagdpanther...I am sure you have seen the pictures! Now she is all yours! New winterized Hetzer...Another beauty and my personal favorite in this pack. Winter Textures: Winter textures do not overwrite the existing textures. They will be loaded automatically in the game whenever there is snow on the ground. We will be providing a detailed How-To on winter textures down the road. What's in store for the future? Well MDMP-2 of course with a new StuG, more winterized vehicles, new face textures, more HI-ACTION sound improvements and more! Thank you for the download and we sincerely hope that you like our work! MAD-DOG DESIGN TEAM...
